ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread despite all the efforts of the medical community. The aim of the study - to identify the features of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) with lung tissue damage in men and women receiving inpatient treatment. Material and methods. The method of continuous sampling selected 225 patients admitted to inpatient treatment. The patients were divided in 2 groups: the 1st group - men (n=85), the 2nd group - women (n=140). Statistical processing was carried out using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 program. Results. In a comprehensive study of the features of lung tissue damage by the new coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2 in men and women was found that women received inpatient treatment more often, after ineffective outpatient treatment, the general serious condition at admission was more typical for women who had a positive result of a PCR-test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 (p=0.038). In the presence of general clinical manifestations complaints of loss of sense of smell were more often presented by women (p=0.020). According to laboratory studies in the indicators of general clinical and biochemical blood tests, on average men often have higher levels of creatinine (p<0.001), women more often have elevated levels of ESR (p=0.003), erythrocytes (p<0.001), CRP (p=0.042) and decreased hemoglobin (p=0.029). Conclusion. In the first wave of the Wuhan pandemic of the SARS-CoV-2 virus strain women prevailed among patients admitted to inpatient treatment with lung tissue damage after ineffective outpatient treatment (p=0.038). There was a commonality in age and clinical manifestations, of the complaints in women, only loss of sense of smell was more common (p=0.020). The erythrocytosis detected in women, increased ESR and CRP, lower hemoglobin and creatinine levels are not specific for COVID-19. There were no statistically significant differences in the terms of hospitalization and the fatal outcome of the disease between men and women.Copyright © Eco-Vector, 2022.

ABSTRACT

The impact of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions on the increase in the average temperature on the planet and the risk of initiating irreversible processes are recognized by most of the scientific community as real threats to humanity. Many countries have a legal and institutional framework for a consistent industrial policy taking into account the climate and environmental components, including carbon accounting. Russia is a country with high intensity of production-based CO2 emissions. In is well-known that the industry generates necessary hence it induce demand for products from other sectors of the economy. Environmental and social parameters in the formation of industrial policy should not be considered as any limitations for the development of industry. Despite a serious change in the agenda for the industrial policy in recent years, caused by COVID-19 and by current geopolitical situation in the world, it is highly undesirable to lag behind in this area, since it is necessary for international cooperation and human technological development. Low-carbon areas correspond to the modern ideology of industrial policy for many countries. The novelty of the study is the evaluation of the total GHG (greenhouse gases) intensity of Russias industry by means of intersectoral model. The paper analyses some of industrial policy measures and their implementation that affect low-carbon economic development. The proposed study could be of interest for other economies aiming to reduce their carbon footprint. © 2022 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Published data on the course of COVID-19 in patients with congenital bleeding disorders (CBDs) is limited. There are questions about howCOVID-19 affects the course of CBDs and, conversely, how CBDs affect the course of coronavirus infection? Some authors suggest that patients with CBDs to be less severely affected by COVID-19. The aim of the study: analysis of the prevalence and course of COVID-19 in patients with CBDs in Russia. Method(s): A web-based questionnaire was developed to collect data. The survey was conducted in the period from 25.06.2022 to 31.07.2022. A cluster of 187 patients from different regions and cities of Russia were interviewed. Result(s): The average age of patients was 37 years. The survey group consisted of 144 patients with hemophilia A, 16 with hemophilia B, 24 with vonWillebrand's disease and 1 patient with factor VII deficiency. COVID-19 affected 115 (61.5%) of 187 surveyed patients and 22 (19%) patients suffered from coronavirus infection twice. Hospitalisation was required for 14 (12.3%) patients. At the beginning of the disease, 82 (71%) patients were on prophylactic treatment with the factor concentrates;11 (10%) received therapy with emicizumab, 20 (17%) received therapy with the factor concentrates on demand and 2 (1.7%) received bypass agents. During COVID-19 different types of bleeding were observed in 9 (7.8%) patients: hemarthrosis, ecchymosis, hematomas, epistaxis, menorrhagia, haemorrhoid bleeding. Due to COVID-19 the blood coagulation parameters were monitored for 15 (13%) of 115 patients who had been ill. The haemostatic therapy regimen was changed in 19 (16.5%) patients. Anticoagulant therapy was received by 8 (7%) patients. There were no thrombotic cases. A change in the course of the underlying disease after COVID-19 was noted by 21 (18%) patients, of which 11 noted an increase in joint pain and 9 reported the appearance of pain in previously intact joints. Discussion/Conclusion: The absence of thrombotic complications in patients with CBDs and COVID-19 suggests that hypocoagulability state may be protective against COVID-19 hypercoagulability-related adverse effects. However, the aggravating condition is an increase in joint pain and the involvement of new joints possible due to both hemostatic disorders and autoimmune reaction.

ABSTRACT

In the regions with the high prevalence of HIV infection, it is necessary to perform differential diagnosis of lung injury caused by COVID-19 and pneumocystis pneumonia. The main complaints in COVID-19 and pneumocystis pneumonia are similar and include dyspnea, weakness, cough, fever, and ground glass radiographic syndrome. However, sputum production was more common in pneumocystis pneumonia. The most important differences were frequent anosmia in COVID-19 and its absence in pneumocystis pneumonia, frequent detection of oropharyngeal candidiasis in pneumocystis pneumonia which was not seen in COVID-19. Serum hepcidin concentration has a high diagnostic potential and indicates a greater likelihood of COVID-19 than pneumocystis pneumonia at values ≤ 768.044 pg/ml (ROC AUC 0.977;p < 0.001). © 2022 New Terra Publishing House. ABSTRACT

In the context of a pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, for a patient with respiratory symptoms and bilateral lung damage, COVID-19 becomes the first disease in the differential diagnostic search. Pneumonia in COVID-19 shares many characteristics with Pneumocystis pneumonia. One of the possible markers of the severe course of COVID-19 is hepcidin, a peptide hormone that negatively regulates iron metabolism. There are no data on the value of hepcidin in Pneumocystis pneumonia in the published scientific literature. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of hepcidin in the blood serum of patients with pneumonia in COVID-19 and Pneumocystis pneumonia to clarify their pathogenetic features. A case-control observational study was conducted, including 68 patients with pneumonia in COVID-19 and 44 patients with HIV infection and Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP/HIV). Determination of hepcidin was carried out by ELISA using the ELISA Kit for Hepcidin. Statistical data processing was carried out using the MedCalc 19.2.6 software. Results. Comparative analysis of serum hepcidin levels in the study groups showed that hepcidin is statistically significantly higher in PCP/HIV than in COVID-19 - the median value is 22 times higher (p <0.0001). When examining the ROC curve for hepcidin, it was found that this biomarker has a high diagnostic potential and indicates a higher probability of COVID-19 than PCP/HIV at values ≤768.044 pg / ml. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to remember about other diseases that manifest themselves with a similar clinical and radiological picture. COVID-19 and PCP/HIV share many similarities; the peptide hormone hepcidin has shown itself as a potential differential diagnostic marker between them, and therefore the need for further studies of hepcidin is justified, taking into account the severity of the course of COVID-19, the presence of comorbidities and in a comparative aspect with pathologies that «mimic¼ under COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The paper presents the advantages of the integration of extensive reading of contemporary British literature in the original and the graded texts based on British Literature into EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teaching non-linguist students of the Humanities and Sciences at Perm State University, Russia. This topic is among those burning issues of ESP teaching/learning discourse studies in Russia and abroad which are being intensively integrated into one interdisciplinary field. Literary texts in a classroom are targeted at increasing the students’ interest and intrinsic motivation, providing variety, encouraging cultural understanding, introducing social, political, emotional and economic issues and improving their foreign language in the professionally oriented field. The Extensive Reading technology proved to be a valuable digital tool in the Covid-19 and post Covid-19 educational environment. Three projects on ER for ESP classes are analyzed in the paper.
